This grade of steel is carbon manganese, high yield non alloy steel. It is called S355 because of the average minimum yield for this material is 355 Mpa. S355J2G3 is generally supplied in a normalized condition.

Common structural steel for welded assemblies, Re>355 N/mm2. Guaranteed toughness at 0 oC. It can be used for statically and dynamically stressed constructions.

Heat to 650-700 oC, cool slowly.
Harden from a temperature of 860-890 oC followed by oil or water quenching.
Normalizing temperature: 860-890 oC.
Hot forming temperature: 1050-850 oC.
Machinability is good, rated at 90% that of the 1112 alloy used as a 100% machining rated steel.
S355 is designated as such because the average minimum yield strength for this material is 355 MPa.
According to the standards designation, this steel has a Material Number of 1.0570 and is designated as St52-3N under the DIN standard.
The chemical composition (in weight %) consists of a maximum of 0.22% Carbon (C), a maximum of 0.55% Silicon (Si), and a maximum of 1.60% Manganese (Mn).
It is commonly used for welded assemblies, statically and dynamically stressed constructions, and structural applications requiring a yield strength of Re > 355 N/mm² with guaranteed toughness at 0 ºC.
Soft annealing is conducted at 650-700 ºC followed by slow cooling. Hardening is done at 860-890 ºC followed by oil or water quenching. Normalizing is also performed at 860-890 ºC, and hot forming (forging) takes place within 1050-850 ºC.
It has good machinability, rated at 90% of the machinability of 1112 alloy, which serves as the 100% standard reference steel.
